JOB VACANCY
1. Financial Controller
Applications are invited for the position of Financial Controller reporting to the Chief Executive
Officer ("CEO") of the Shipping Corporation of Polynesia Limited ("SCP"). The Financial Controller
is responsible for the day to day financial control of the company and its operation, statutory financial
reporting and to guide financial planning and decision making.
SCP is a public enterprise wholly owned by the Government of The Kingdom of Tonga. SCP's mandate
is to manage the efficient and effective operation of the MV Olovaha, an inter island
ferry servicing the major Tongan island groups spread across the South West Pacific and to plan
the introduction of the new inter-island ferry for delivery in 2009.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Supervision the finance and accounting function of the company to ensure the continual
Continual development of the preparation of management information to guide decision
making
Preparation of reports for and preparation to the Board of Directors and representatives of
Government as may be requied
Assist Chief Executive Officerin financial and strategic planning
Preparation of year end Audited Financial Statements for the company
Preparation of the annual budget for the company
Identification and management of risk
Mentoring other members of the management team to enhance their capacity for decision
making and to strive for continual day to day operational improvement.
The candidate shall hold a world class Professional Qualification (such as CPA) from a body of Accountants
recognised by the Tongan Society of Accountants.
The candidate should be able to demonstrate:
Experience of Quick Books multi currency accounting or similar computerised accounting
package.
A proven commercial acumen
An ability to work to tight deadlines to produce timely, accurate and incisive information with
an excellent attention to detail
An ability to understand the business operations and the measures needed to maximise
profitability
An ability guide the CEO and Board of directors and to work at all levels to develop and mentor
local staff
A strong drive and commitment to change
Post qualification experience gained in a commercial environment
Experience of shipping within a developing economy, ideally within the South Pacific would be
a major advantage
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

SCP is a developing company with limited resources, and so this is a highly challenging role
requiring a broad ranging skill base and using proven commercial acumen. The Remuneration
package will be negotiable based upon the qualifications, quality and experience in line with
similar positions in The Kingdom of Tonga. A detailed job description can be provided on

performance measured and include an option to renew.
